Oly Mortimer will realise a major racing ambition when
he contests the Porsche Carrera Cup GB this season with GT
Marques.
Mortimer, the leading driver from the 2011 Porsche GT3 Cup
Challenge, has worked for a long time to raise the budget to step up to the
Carrera Cup GB. However, he thought it would not come off for 2012 until the
opportunity arose with GT Marques. Mortimer will race in the Pro-Am1 category
and is expected to be among the Pro-Am1 pacesetters.
“I’m over the
moon to get this chance,” said Mortimer, who can now build on a superb debut
Porsche season in 2011. “It’s what I’ve been working for and I want to make a
professional career as a sports and GT racer. The one-make nature of the Carrera
Cup is perfect as you can really show your ability against people in identical
cars.”
The 28-year old Scot from Edinburgh has an impressive racing
record to date and has won every championship or series he has contested. Since
he started racing in 2004, Oly has taken titles in the Scottish Ford XR and the
Scottish Mini Cooper series, the MINI Challenge and, in 2011, the Porsche GT3
Cup Challenge.
