Lloyd (19) from Huddersfield won £80,000 towards his 2012 Carrera Cup GB programme during the final of the Scholarship and has elected to join one of the most successful teams in the championship. Team Parker Racing, headed by Stuart Parker, has contested the Carrera Cup GB since the first season in 2003 and will now go into the tenth season with Lloyd as a key member of its multi-car squad.
“The team makes a big effort with everything,” said Lloyd. “One of the things that really appeals to me is that there will be other quick drivers in the team that I can learn from. I tested with Stuart Parker and the team at the end of last year and everything he does is very good.”
Lloyd will join fellow Yorkshireman Richard Plant in the squad [read more here] and raced karts against Plant in his formative years. Lloyd says he can’t wait for the start of the new season. “I’ve never looked forward to something so much. This is the most important year of my career so far.”
Parker is pleased to have signed another strong young racer. “Daniel is an exciting prospect,” said Parker. “He has shown well in testing with us and we’re looking forward to working with him. I think he’ll be competitive straight out of the box.”
